Unlike other awards shows (we're looking at you, Oscars), the MTV VMAs give artists, actors and entertainers the chance to push the style envelope a little bit more than they usually would.
At L.A.'s Staples Center Thursday night, stars like Rihanna, Katy Perry and Emma Watson did just that.

Rihanna debuted a stunning cropped 'do, while Perry rocked a shimmering Elie Saab gown boasting teal and fuchsia sequin embroidery.
Harry Potter alum Watson -- looking more grown-up than ever -- showed off her long legs in a sexy, graphic print mini-dress.
