Billboard -- Metallica's eclectic Orion Music + More Festival is set for a second year, and is moving from the East Coast to the Midwest. Meanwhile, the Bamboozle festival will take a year off from its New Jersey residency next year, but hopes to return in 2014. In a post on its Facebook page, the Bamboozle announced that "we will miss all of you in 2013 but keep your eyes peeled for 2014 info." The long-running Jersey fest, which moved back to its original home in Asbury Park last year, celebrated its 10th year in 2012 with a lineup that included Bon Jovi, the Foo Fighters and Skrillex. Orion, on the other hand, will take place June 8-9 in Detroit, according to postings at Metallica's official web site and at www.orionmusicandmore.com. The location, lineup and ticket information will be announced in February.
The inaugural Orion Festival was held June 23-24 of this year at Bader Field in Atlantic City, N.J., drawing 32,000 fans who heard more than three dozen bands on an broad-ranging lineup curated by the Metallica members itself that ranged from hard rockers such as The Sword, Ghost and Detroit's Black Dahlia Murder to alternative acts like Arctic Monkeys, Modest Mouse and Titus Andronicus and even country stars like Eric Church. The event also featured a variety of lifestyle attractions such as extreme sports, a car show and displays of guitarist Kirk Hammett's horror movie memorabilia in the Kirk's Crypt, which the guitarist told Billboard "will be two stories high" for the 2013 edition of Orion. Earlier this year, drummer Lars Ulrich said Metallica was "definitely looking to either keep (Orion) in New Jersey or keep it on the East Coast." No reason was given for the group's change of heart. But he did indicate that the second Orion will maintain its predecessor's variety.
Rolling Stones at Coachella 2013? There's An App With That
"It was obviously our festival, so we were sort of the hosts and we wanted everybody to feel that we were hosting and we were there," Ulrich explained. "It was a lot of fun to around and introduce band and introduce our friends and have all our lifestyle activities and stuff. We had a great time." Metallica has started work on a new album, its followup to 2008's "Death Magnetic." The group has also filmed a 3D movie that will combine plot with performance footage that's due out in 2013.
