Brian Austin Green Flexes More Than His Acting Chops on 'Desperate Housewives'

Entertainment Tonight, Friday, December 31, 2010, 5:06am (PST)

Brian Austin Green sashayed his way onto Wisteria Lane this season as Keith, a hot handyman, who is heating more things up for Bree (Marcia Cross) than her furnace. Now, ET talks to the new addition to "Desperate Housewives" about his cougar storyline, his tats and his New Year's resolutions.

ETonline: What is your favorite thing about playing Keith?

Brian Austin Green: Hands down, working with Marcia. She is just so good at what she does. She is so committed even after seven years of doing the show. She makes it really fun and easy.

Marcia is just attractive. She is attractive in a bunch of ways. She is beautiful. She is intelligent. She is really settled in who she is. She is easy going. She would be an easy person for someone to fall in love.

ETonline: Is there anything in your real life that helped you get ready for a role in a cougar storyline? What is there about an older woman that is so attractive?

Brian Austin Green: There is nothing in life … my wife [Megan Fox] is younger than I am by 13 years, so there is nothing I did in preparing for it. I think the thing that is attractive is being with someone who is settled in the sense of who they are. It seems like it would be something that is much more popular in cities like New York and Los Angeles, where it is so easy for people to lose track of who they are, or spend a lot more time finding who they are because of the pace of everything and how the world turns. In Middle America and smaller cities, it is much more the same pace, so, I think, people who grow up together, fall in love with each other. They are much more settled by a young age.

ETonline: Did you expect the twist that your dad {John Schneider] would want Bree? That was a fun element of the last episode.

Brian Austin Green: They had talked about it a little bit. I originally wasn't sure if it was going to be the demise of Keith or not. There is sort of this pending how-long-am-I-going-to-be-on-the-show feeling. Every time a storyline comes up, it is like, "Here this is," or "This is how they're ending this," or "This is where this is going." I thought for sure that Keith's dad would be around longer and there would be more there. But lucky for me…!

ETonline: What was it like working with John Schneider?

Brian Austin Green: It was John Schneider. Bo Duke! I was in shock that I was in scenes … he's great. He is a nice man. He really is. Again, he is confident and comfortable with who he is. A family guy. He loves his kids. He is always talking about what they did and what they did to the house and on the property. He is simple and easy going that way. We had a lot in common and got along really well. It is an amazing group of people on the show. There is not one person I have met that has rubbed me the wrong way at all.

ETonline: John has the same music background that you come from.

Brian Austin Green: My dad played drums for John Schneider when John was touring. I showed up and said, "You know my dad." He said, "Who's your dad." "George Green." "Get out of here. George is your dad." He put the whole thing together. We had a whole music connection because we knew so many of the same people because I had grown up hearing their names and John was playing music with them.

ETonline: You have been shirtless in a lot of scenes on "Desperate Housewives," so we have seen all your tats. Do any of them have any special significance?

Brian Austin Green: All of them. They all have special significance: my wife's name, my son's name, my son's baby picture. They are all sort of rooted and connected with family in one way or the other. They are nondescript as far as someone looking at them. You can't look at them and tell right away what they are. I have a couple I got when I was a kid that are just sort of silly and I thought looked cool. Those will probably go away at some point. I love my tattoos.

ETonline: You are most famous for your role on "Beverly Hills, 90210." Have your fans followed you over to "Desperate Housewives" from that show and, if so, what do they say about it?

Brian Austin Green: I think it is a pretty similar fan base. It almost seems to me that the kids that grew up watching "90210," that were around the same age that I was when we were doing it, are now the perfect age to be watching "Desperate Housewives." They seem to like it. I haven't heard any negatives yet. I haven't had anybody threaten my life, so something is working.

ETonline: What can you tease for the first new episode in January?

Brian Austin Green: We are going to find out more about Susan (Teri Hatcher). We may or may not figure out about Paul (Mark Moses). I am not going to give you anything. I think it is much more of a tease if I give you nothing. It won't disappoint you.

ETonline: So will it be as big as "Who Shot J.R.?"

Brian Austin Green: I don't know, because Paul Young doesn't wear that big hat. If they had gone big hats earlier with Paul, then yes, it could have been. I don't think anything will ever be as big as "Who Shot J.R.?"

ETonline: Do you make New Year's resolutions?

Brian Austin Green: I do make New Year's resolutions. I don't make them out loud. I make them just to myself. Literally, I don't tell anyone, even my wife. I feel if you do, it puts too much pressure on you. If you put them out there, everybody is asking, "How is it going?"

ETonline: Do you keep them?

Brian Austin Green: I do find that I do keep them.

"Desperate Housewives" returns with new episodes Sunday, January 2 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
