Bruce Willis Talks Past Sobriety in GQ: I Drink Wine Now

Now that Bruce Willis is 57 years old, he says he can trust himself around alcohol. In a new interview with GQ magazine, the Looper star explains why he started drinking again. 

"I had been sober," Willis, who reportedly decided to get sober in 1988 after being the face of Seagram's Golden Wine Cooler products in the 1980s, explains in the March issue. "But once I realized that I wasn't gonna run myself off the pier of life with alcohol, drinking vodka out of the bottle every day . . . I have wine now, mostly when I eat."

And while Willis has matured, so has his film career -- but not towards an Oscar nomination. The fact that he's never earned a nomination, however, doesn't bother the Pulp Fiction actor "too much."

"It just always has seemed whimsical to me, to think about it. You don't get an Oscar for comedy, and you don't get it for shooting people. You get it for novelty, for being fascinating to watch in some character role," the action star sniffs. "But the Die Hard stuff and Dirty Harry are all fraught with the same thing that every story is fraught with."

He adds, "The middle years to now makes me start to think that there should come a time when I should not work so much."

Willis is a father a four: daughter Mabel, 10 months, with wife Emma Heming, and daughters Rumer, 24, Scout, 21, Tallulah, 19, with ex-wife Demi Moore.

Telling GQ that "fatherhood's not a bad gig," the actor also showed off a tattoo on his finger.

"It's a tattoo of the month and date that I got married to my wife, the mother of my child," he said of his wife of nearly four years. "It just seemed like a little thing I wanted to have there."
