Celebrity Splits 2012: Whose Breakup Was the Most Shocking?

It was an epic year of shocking celebrity splits!

Longtime couples Heidi Klum and Seal, Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes and Amy Poehler and Will Arnett went their separate ways in 2012.

After seven years of marriage, Klum, 39, and Seal, 49, released a joint statement to Us Weekly on Jan. 23 announcing they were separating.

"While we have enjoyed seven very loving, loyal and happy years of marriage, after much soul-searching we have decided to separate. We have had the deepest respect for one another throughout our relationship and continue to love each other very much, but we have grown apart," the parents of four said. "This is an amicable process and protecting the well-being of our children remains our top priority, especially during this time of transition. We thank our family, friends, and fans for their kind words of support. And for our children's sake, we appreciate you respecting our privacy."

After 14 years and two children together, Depp, 49, and Paradis, 40, who never wed, parted ways on June 19. "Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have amicably separated," the actor's rep told Us in a statement. "Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children." 

The days of TomKat came to an end on June 29. Cruise, 50, and Holmes, 34, parents to daughter Suri, 6, announced they were divorcing after five years of marriage. "Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest. This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family," Holmes' attorney Jonathan Wolfe said in a statement to Us. Cruise and Holme' divorce was finalized Aug. 20.

Comedian couple Poehler, 41, and Arnett, 42, shared the not funny news that they were separating after nine years of marriage on Sept. 6. "It's very amicable," a source told Us of the split. After announcing their breakup, the exes continued to co-parent sons Archie, 4, and Abel, 2. An insider told Us they "have a lot of respect for each other" and "there's still love between them."
