Flashback! See Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie's First Trip as a Couple

They famously fell in love on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith in 2004, but it wasn't until April 19, 2005, during a romantic three-day getaway, that photos confirmed Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were indeed a couple.

In shots obtained exclusively by Us Weekly, Pitt and Jolie, then 41 and 29, rendezvoused at a villa on Diani Beach, Kenya -- nearly 10,000 miles away from Hollywood. They were joined by Jolie's son Maddox, then 3.

"Maddox would hang out with Brad and followed him wherever he went," a witness on Diani Beach told Us at the time. "It was clear that Brad and Maddox have a close relationship -- they were joking around together. When Brad would talk to him, his face would light up and he'd giggle."

Though their reps denied they were a couple, the evidence was undeniable. At one point, while the stars were cooling off in their private pool, "they wrapped their arms around each other and shared long, passionate kiss," said a source. Later, Pitt rubbed sunblock on bikini-clad Jolie's shoulders. "It was like a sensual massage," the source added.

When their trip ended, Jolie and her son headed to Ukunda airstrip; Pitt departed separately. "He is moving on with his life," a Pitt pal said of the actor, who had recently split with wife Jennifer Aniston, then 36.

Flash forward to April 11, 2012, when Jolie and Pitt -- now the proud parents of six children -- decided to finally take the plunge. Pitt, now 48, worked with jewelry designer Robert Procop to design the perfect engagement ring for his bride-to-be; Jolie, now 36, flaunted it during a private viewing of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art's Chinese Galleries.

Procop acquired "a diamond of the finest quality which was then transformed using Pitt's unique designs, cut with distinctive faceting to a shape and size that perfectly suits Angelina's long, slender fingers," a rep for the jewelry designer told Us.

Pitt's manager later confirmed the news, saying: "It is a promise for the future and their kids are very happy. There's no date set at this time."

Jolie's father, Jon Voight, 73, was elated to hear about his daughter's engagement. "I'm very happy for them," he told Us.
