Joe Simpson Charged With Two Counts of DUI

  • Papa Joe has been charged.

    Joe Simpson, the 54-year-old father of Jessica and Ashlee Simpson, was arrested on Aug. 4, in Sherman Oaks, Calif., on suspicion of driving under the influence and has now been formally charged with two counts of DUI, TMZ reports.

    Two misdemeanor counts of DUI were filed against the talent manager and TV producer by the Los Angeles City Attorney.

    Officers believed Joe was intoxicated when they pulled him over on Ventura Boulevard around 10 p.m. and arrested him on the scene. An LAPD spokesperson told Us Weekly, "He was detained overnight at Valley Jail in Van Nuys before being released at 9:40 a.m. on Aug. 5, after posting $5,000 bail."

    According to TMZ, if Joe is convicted on both counts, he could face a $1,000 fine and up to 36 months' probation. This is his first offense, so it is unlikely he would end up behind bars.
