Johnny Depp Apologizes for Rape Comments In Vanity Fair
USMagazine, Wednesday, October 5, 2011, 10:19am (PDT)
Johnny Depp is sorry.
In an interview with Vanity Fair's November issue, the actor compared having his picture taken to being raped. But now, the 48-year-old Rum Diary star is apologizing for his comments.
"I am truly sorry for offending anyone in any way," he said in a statement Wednesday morning. "It was a poor choice of words on my part in an effort to explain a feeling."
Depp originally told Vanity Fair photo shoots were invasive to the point where "you just feel like you're being raped somehow."
But he's not the first actor to stick his foot in his mouth when it comes to the touchy topic of sexual assault. Kristen Stewart told British Elle last summer that paparazzi cameras made her feel "like I'm looking at someone being raped."
Like Depp, the 21-year-old soon apologized. Harriet Lessel, the executive director of the NYC Alliance Against Sexual Assault, told Radar Online of Stewart's remarks: "Kristen Stewart was expressing that she feels violated... It [was] clearly a poor choice of words."
