Ke$ha: "I'm Not a Train Wreck," But I "Drink Like a Champion"

USMagazine, Thursday, October 11, 2012, 4:30pm (PDT)

There's more to Ke$ha than meets the eye, according to the glitter-loving pop star herself.

The "Die Young" singer and songwriter covers the October/November issue of VIBE, where she opens up about her perceived party girl image and her new album, Warrior (available November 30).

"The first record was a celebration of partying and being young, but this record's a better look at my personality," the 25-year-old says. "Whatever, I drink like a champion. But I can also do other stuff. I have a sense of humor about my lyrics. I'm not a train wreck -- I'm just having fun."

Ke$ha, who also penned Britney Spears' smash "Till the World Ends," says she's "really just been doing a lot of thinking about life. The first record, people tore me a new a--hole, and were f-cking steady on my balls, and tried to make me feel like I was such a piece of sh-t. I did some soul searching, and realized nothing I'm doing is negative -- it's actually super positive. You can change peoples' mood in a three-and-a-half minute song. So why not spread positive energy and be funny?"

Though her wild ways can be sometimes off-putting, the "Blow" singer wouldn't have it any other way. "If I tried to pretend to be something I wasn't, people would have smelled bullsh-t a long time ago," she says. "I would've gotten eaten alive if I tried to be a heel-wearing little princess. It's just not who I am. I've had people try to make me act right, but it's just not gonna happen. I just can't not say inappropriate things."

According to Ke$ha, her brazen attitude has more to do with her upbringing in Nashville than a desire to stand out in the music industry. "I came from a single-parent home, my mom had a nose ring and tattoos, and I'd make my own clothes," she tells VIBE. "People just thought I was a f-cking freak."
