Bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do?

Hockey star Sean Avery was arrested and charged with battery on a police officer early Friday morning in L.A. A police department spokesman tells NBC that the New York Rangers player allegedly shoved a police officer responding to a loud party at his Hollywood home.

Officers came to the 31-year-old athlete's house a little after midnight. When the police arrived at his home, Avery reportedly argued with them and attempted to go back inside, pushing an officer out of the way.

He then slammed the door and refused to come out; additional officers were called to the location.

Avery, who has been romantically linked to Elisha Cuthbert and supermodel Hilary Rhoda, finally did come out from his house. He was arrested for battery of a police officer, which carries a bail of $20,000 according to the Hollywood Division watch commander.

Avery's bad boy rep is nothing new; in 2008, he made a comment about Calgary Flames' defenseman Dion Phaneuf, who was dating his ex-girlfriend Cuthbert, 28. "I'm really happy to be back in Calgary; I love Canada. I just want to comment on how it's become like a common thing in the NHL for guys to fall in love with my sloppy seconds," he said. Within hours, the NHL suspended him indefinitely for "conduct detrimental to the league or the game of hockey."

He did not return to the Dallas Stars, but returned to hockey playing for the New York Rangers in 2009.

In addition to his athletic pursuits, Avery is interested in men's fashion and even interned at Vogue in 2008. His "double life" in hockey and fashion led New Line cinema to commission a screenplay based on his life. Avery told the Daily Beast in 2008 he envisioned fellow Canadian Ryan Gosling playing him on the silver screen.
