Smiley Kristen Stewart Wears Short Shorts, Gets Wet in Marie Claire

Two months before her steamy hookup with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders, Kristen Stewart looked relaxed and happy in a Marie Claire photo shoot, which took place in Cannes, France.

In the photos, which can be found in the mag's September issue, the On the Road actress, 22, shows off her legs in short black cut-offs, a vintage Blondie T-shirt and a red quilted moto jacket while standing in the middle of a rooftop pool. Her rare grin tops off her ensemble. In a second photo, Stewart is sandwiched in between her On the Road costars, Garrett Hedlund, 27, and Sam Riley, 32.

These days, Stewart is finding it harder than usual to smile -- especially since her relationship with boyfriend Robert Pattinson, 26, is on the rocks after pics of her and Sanders' July 17 makeout session surfaced. (Pattinson is currently hiding out at his Water for Elephants costar Reese Witherspoon's Ojai, Calif. ranch.)

Stewart has also been staying under the radar, but with two movie releases -- Breaking Dawn: Part 2 and On the Road -- due to hit theaters this fall and winter, there's no telling what the devastated actress will decide to do.

"No one can believe how totally self-destructive this was," a source has told Us Weekly.

Added another Stewart pal: "She just can't believe she f--ked all this up and ruined everything."
