Tearful Lily Allen Talks About Miscarriage, Eating Disorder

USMagazine, Tuesday, March 8, 2011, 8:04am (PST)

Lily Allen is finally opening up about the tragic loss of her unborn child.

In a Channel 4 British documentary excerpted by Daily Mail, the 25-year-old "Smile" singer speaks candidly about the heartbreak of suffering her second miscarriage. (In 2008, Allen lost her baby with musician Ed Simons. Then in October 2010, she and fiance Sam Cooper suffered a miscarriage six months into her complication-filled pregnancy.)

"Riches to Rags" chronicles the singer's life from March to October of last year and intimately captures Allen's distress over the loss of her child. "That kind of thing changes a person," she says tearfully.

She also admits to having battled an eating disorder in the past. "I used to vomit after meals. It's not something I'm proud of," she confides.

"But, I tell you what, a lot of people came up to me telling me how great I looked and I'd be on the cover of every magazine... But I wasn't happy, I really wasn't... I would love to be the skinniest minniest person in the world but I can't do that without being unhappy-- I like food."

The singer claims she's finally moved past her obsession with the number on the scale. "I do Pilates three times a week," she says. "I am still body conscious, but I'm not so concerned with it; I don't care as much."

She adds: "I'm a pop star, not a model. Don't make me feel (like) s*** for not being really skinny and having an eating disorder."
