The Office Is Ending This Season

The staff of Dunder-Mifflin is getting ready to punch the clock for the last time.

After nine seasons on NBC, The Office will air its final episode next May, executive producer Greg Daniels announced in a conference call Tuesday.

"This year feels like the last chance to … make an artistic ending for the show," Daniels said.

Based on a beloved British comedy of the same name starring Ricky Gervais, the American Office debuted in 2005 and starred Steve Carell as the hapless, clueless office manager of paper company Dunder-Mifflin's Scranton, Penn. branch, with Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, BJ Novak, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms and others costarring in the pseudo-documentary.

Carell left the series back in 2010.

"All questions will be answered this year," Daniels said. "We're going to see who is behind the documentary. [Fans] will pleased and excited by what we have planned for them this year.”

He added: "There's so much to pay off after nine seasons . . . My biggest concern is just packing in all these great ideas the writing staff has and make sure we squeeze as many as we can into the ending."
