Everett was 75, and had been battling lung cancer for more than a year, his daughter explained to the AP.

Working in Hollywood for 40-plus years, Everett starred at Dr. Joe Gannon on Medical Center, which ran for seven seasons -- at the time, the longest-running medical drama (tied with Marcus Welby, M.D.)

With later TV credits that include The Love Boat, Murder, She Wrote, Without a Trace and Castle, the handsome actor also starred in such high-profile films as David Lynch's Mulholland Drive, Gus Van Sant's remake of Psycho plus the Jigsaw Murders, The Firechasers, Airplane II: The Sequel and more.
