Weekend Box Office: End of Watch, House at the End of the Street Tie for Top Spot

USMagazine, Sunday, September 23, 2012, 12:45pm (PDT)

The late summer box office blahs continue.

Entertainment Weekly reports that this month's poor ticket sales -- equaling $357.3 million, the lowest September total since 2004 -- are turning out to be ones for the (non)record-books, and that, in general, September 2012 has been one of the slowest months for box office earnings in a decade.

Despite the low overall total, Jake Gyllenhaal's cop drama End of Watch and Jennifer Lawrence's horror flick, The House at the End of the Street, both managed to earn a respectable $13 million, tying for first place with their weekend ticket sales.

In third place? Clint Eastwood's Trouble With the Curve (which also stars Justin Timberlake and Amy Adams). The baseball-focused drama brought in $12.7 million this weekend.

Rounding out the top five were the re-released, 3-D version of Finding Nemo (which came in fourth place, with $9.4 million) and Resident Evil: Retribution, which landed in fifth place with earnings totaling $6.7 million.
