As Fears for Lindsay Lohan Increase, She Insists, 'I'm Fine'

It's a question we've been asking ourselves a lot lately: Is Lindsay Lohan going to be the next Hollywood casualty?

Over the last few days, her seemingly extended spiral toward rock bottom appears to have sped up, what with face-planting into a cactus while the paparazzi snapped away; walking around with hair modeled after the creepy girl who crawled out of the TV in "The Ring"; fuming after being turned away at the door of a shindig attended by Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton; staring off into space during another all-night party session; and posing at the birthday party of Perez Hilton, who has mercilessly mocked her for months.

Add in her continued deflection of blame for anything that goes wrong in her life (along with her head-scratching E*Trade lawsuit) and the red flags are flapping like crazy.

Up until recently, we were holding out hope that Lindsay, who is all of 23, would have an epiphany and veer off her apparent self-destructive path, leading her to duck out of sight for a while, get her life together and eventually, through hard work, a Britney-modeled system of oversight and a heretofore-unknown strength of character, stage a comeback.

Now, we're just keeping our fingers crossed that she doesn't become the next former child star to end up in the In Memoriam montage at the Oscars. And we're not the only ones.

"If she doesn't get help soon, she's going to die," a "professional who is extremely close" to the starlet warns TMZ.

And according to PopEater, media outlets are sadly preparing for the worst by getting her obituary together.

"We all scrambled when Brittany Murphy and Heath Ledger died," explains a news producer, "and don't want that to happen again."

The members of her inner circle who remain "feel something terrible will happen" unless Lindsay seeks immediate help for her issues, according to TMZ, which notes that it's "not talking about Michael or Dina Lohan," her coattail-riding parents.

But Lohan has purportedly brushed off appeals to return to rehab for the fourth time and is "making excuses for her erratic behavior and refusing to acknowledge her problem."

"I'm fine," she assures Gossip Cop. "I'm working and healthy."

Surprisingly, the judge in her DUI case agrees, giving her a gold star just last month.

Other members of the legal system apparently aren't as convinced. TMZ says police officers who occasionally deal with Lindsay when she needs help with the paparazzi were "so concerned" about her behavior on a recent night out that they considered hauling her in on a 5150, an involuntary psych hold (the same thing used when Britney melted down).

But ultimately, they opted not to because they decided "she could still take of herself, though feebly."

Which means that if the first step to recovery is admitting the problem, LiLo seems to be staying firmly rooted, except when she's falling headfirst into pointy shrubbery. Of course, that wasn't her fault.

"Only I would get pushed into a large, sharp plant by crazy paparazzi!!!" she marveled. "I need to start wearing more flats:/"

We want nothing more than for Lindsay to prove all the dire predictions wrong, and, as she tweeted on Sunday night, "GET IT TOGETHER AND LET'S GO!"
