According to Janet Jackson's testimony against her stalker, Robert Gardner obsessively followed her for nine years, sent her multiple messages, and showed up at random events including a "Saturday Night Live" rehearsal, where he was caught in possession of a box cutter and a knife, according to Jet.
"It's only a matter of time before he has the opportunity to hurt me," Jackson stated in court papers. She also accused Gardner of sending her several “disturbing” letters and making phone calls that "often contained sexual references." Gardner is said to have believed he and the singer-turned-actress were in a committed relationship -- Jackson claims Gardner told her, "I want a family with you." In 2005, Jackson was ultimately granted a three-year restraining order against Gardner, who referred to himself merely as a “fan” and told the judge, "I'm not sure why she's saying this," People reported.
