Like mother, like daughter: Both Courtney LoveandFrances Bean Cobain were both emancipated minors. Love's nomadic childhood includes being placed in more than 20 foster facilities between 1978 and 1980, and allegations by her mother that her Deadhead dad gave her LSD at as a child. She became an exotic dancer as a teen and, after years of enduring custody battles between her parents, became emancipated at age 16.
When Love went on to have Frances with husband Kurt Cobain, who died when his daughter was 2, she arguably followed her parents' own poor example when raising her child. Frances' own challenging childhood -- which involved a mom with a partying lifestyle -- was chronicled in the media. By the end of 2009, Love lost custody to Frances' paternal grandmother and aunt. Frances won emancipation from her mother, and she remains estranged from her mother.
