Colin Farrell

Spotlight

Colin Farrell, with his thick Irish brogue and even thicker eyebrows, went from instant A-list sex symbol to a cautionary tale of the side effects of fame to a respected Golden Globe-winning actor holding his own against heavyweights like Russell Crowe, Tom Hanks and Christopher Walken. He began as a teen model and quickly moved up to British TV and stage productions. Playing a oft-shirtless soldier in Joel Schumacher’s Tigerland catapulted him onto the world’s radar and he quickly secured gigs opposite marquee talent like Minority Report, The Recruit, Daredevil, Phone Booth, A Home At The End Of The World (Unfortunately, his nude seen was cut.), Alexander and Miami Vice. While his star rose, he was hitting rock bottom. A 2001 marriage to actress Amelia Warner combusted after only four months. His bar bills, drug use, profane tirades and sexcapades (including a sex tape made with a Playboy Playmate he had to sue to keep private) are the stuff of legend. Even the 2003 birth of son James, who suffers from a rare neuro-genetic disorder called Angelman Syndrome, with model Kim Bordenave didn’t curb his wild ways. In 2005, he finally admitted he had a problem, went to rehab and came out recommitted to his craft, earning praise for working with auteurs Woody Allen and Terry Gilliam. He won gold at the Globes for In Bruges and was trophy-adjacent in a supporting role in Crazy Heart. He became a father again in 2009 when Polish actress Alicja Bachleda gave birth to son Henry.
