Holmes Is Where the Heart (and Legal Help) Is
Katie's move to file for sole legal custody of 6-year-old Suri, and to do so in New York, where she stands a better chance of getting it, points to one thing: She's receiving solid legal advice.
No surprise, then, that People mag says her attorney father, Martin Holmes (seen at left with Katie and her mom in 2011), jetted to New York from the family's home base in Ohio "to aid in quickly orchestrating her decisive exit."
She's reportedly retained two pit-bull divorce attorneys, one in New York and one in New Jersey.
"Katie's father is very involved in the divorce proceedings and working closely with Katie's [lawyers]," a spy explains to Radar Online. "Katie's father has truly been her rock in the last several months, and she just doesn't know where she would be without him."
Still, the choice to bail out of her suspicion-clouded marriage was apparently hers alone.
"She's a strong person and makes up her own mind," says a Holmes confidant. "She's unwavering."
Shocked to hear that Katie still has a backbone? Seems Tom was, too.
An insider tattles to People that Cruise, who has been filming the sci-fi flick "Oblivion" in Iceland, "had no idea this was coming." Another tells Us Weekly that he's "flipping out."
But is he (or someone close to him) also reacting to Holmes' exit by keeping tabs on her? Click on for more …
