Among the many moving parts of Scientology is an elite branch called Sea Organization, or Sea Org, which requires members to sign a billion-year contract, billed by the church as a "symbolic document" meant to "signify an individual’s eternal commitment to the goals, purposes and principles of the Scientology religion."
TMZ reports Katie's decision to bail out of her marriage and take Suri with her was prompted by her belief that Tom "was going to send" the tot off to join the hard-core organization.
Still, the two have allegedly been at odds over Suri's involvement in the religion.
According to the Scientology website, Sea Org members "work long hours and live communally." They undergo "Scientology training and auditing during a portion of each day, but otherwise dedicate themselves to furthering the objectives of Scientology through their particular functions."
Oh, and remember that minder we told you about earlier, the one from Katie's long-ago W interview? She was reportedly a Sea Org member.
"Tom is incredibly passionate about Scientology," a snitch informs Radar Online. "He truly believes in the church and its teachings and truly believes that it is imperative that his children are raised as Scientologists."
Given that, "Tom will move Heaven and Earth to ensure Suri stays a Scientologist, at least until she is of an age to make a decision to leave on her own accord," continues the spy. "But until then, make no bones about it, Suri will be raised within the church."
