Shia Blabs About Ex Carey Mulligan: 'She Was Chasing Marriage, Family, Kids'
On the one hand, we should just be happy that Shia LaBeouf isn't yapping about how sexy his mom is or about how he sent a sex tape to director Lars Von Trier. On the other, he might want to keep his lips zipped about ex-girlfriend and "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" co-star Carey Mulligan, whom he split with in October 2010 after a yearlong romance.
"Our thing came down to not having compatible work/lifestyles," he tells the London Sunday Times (via the Daily Mail). "We were always traveling and had sensibility differences that weren't conducive to living with one another."
Such as? "I'm harder on myself and my surroundings than she is, and we had a culture shock in terms of meeting her parents and vice versa," explains the actor, who is currently out stumping for "Lawless." "Sensibilities, cultures, histories. There were differences, that's all."
Mulligan rebounded quickly from their breakup with childhood pen pal Marcus Mumford, whom she wed in April in a bucolic ceremony performed by the rocker's father.
"She's happy as hell right now, and we wouldn't have been able to make it like that," acknowledges Shia. "She was chasing marriage, family, kids more than I was."
He balances out that revelation by gushing, "Carey is not just an actress, she is a great human being, a sweet girl and super-intelligent."
For now, "I'm not opposed to marriage," says the filter-free LaBeouf, who is dating designer Karolyn Pho. "I just think I'm quite young. I come from divorce. I'm only doing marriage once. It's not a game for me. I'm not a religious person, but I have ethics."
