When Michael and Debbie divorced in 1999, she gave Michael full custody rights for their two children, Prince and Paris. As part of the divorce settlement, she was given a substantial amount of money to stay out of the children's lives. But it didn't end there. In 2001, she had her parental rights terminated by a private judge, but then had the decision reversed in 2004 after Michael was charged child abuse; she also feared that the children were being exposed to the teachings of the Nation of Islam. At the time, she said, she saw her kids only eight hours every 45 days. After Michael died in 2009, she worked out a deal to have supervised visitations with Prince and Paris.
