Hot Gossip: Gwyneth GOOP Poop on 'Frenemy'

In this week's issue of her GOOP newsletter, Gwyneth Paltrow skips the organic recipes and colon irrigation tips in order to tackle a more serious topic, one that hits her close to home: namely, gossip-mongering. The inner aspect-nourishing Oscar winner has five experts weigh in on why using the so-called "evil tongue" to talk trash is bad for us, but she chooses a strange way to illustrate her point.

In her quest to discover why it feels "so good to hear something bad" (also known as being laden with schadenfreude), Paltrow offers up a tantalizing blind item guaranteed to encourage the very thing she's railing against.

"Back in the day, I had a 'frenemy' who, as it turned out, was pretty hell-bent on taking me down," she writes. "This person really did what they could to hurt me. I was deeply upset, I was angry, I was all of those things you feel when you find out that someone you thought you liked was venomous and dangerous. I restrained myself from fighting back. I tried to take the high road."

Then came some awful news. Some awful, wonderful news.

"But one day I heard that something unfortunate and humiliating had happened to this person," continues the actress. "And my reaction was deep relief and happiness. There went the high road."

So, who could this "frenemy" be? Speculation from many a wagging evil tongue has quickly fallen on one of Paltrow's long-ago pals, a fellow actress who made headlines several years back with her sticky-fingered ways (OK, here's a hint: Her name rhymes with Binona Hyder).

See, once upon a time, Gwyn and Binona were close friends, but then came rumors of intrigue over the script for "Shakespeare in Love" and ...

On second thought, we'll say no more, because Gwyneth, who recently dismissed the growing anti-GOOP movement with a tart "[Bleep] the haters," believes it's bad for our soul ("Here's to washing our mouths out with soap...," she rah-rahs).

And we figure anyone who knows so much about firming our butts and staying in $1,000-a-night hotel rooms would never steer us wrong.
