Amanda Defends Ryan Over Rihanna

Amanda Seyfried's romance with Ryan Phillippe appears to be kaput after just three months, but she's still willing to stick up for him. When an X17 paparazzo tried to butter her up this week by saying she's too good for the onetime Mr. Reese Witherspoon, the actress cheerfully fired back, "Oh, he's a nice guy -- we're friends."

Amanda, who apparently hasn't yet learned that most celebrities ignore the questions lobbed by hovering shutterbugs, turned coy when asked if she and Ryan were "officially" broken up, first saying, "It's false," before rethinking her answer and shrugging, "I can't really tell you that … I'm not sure about that. You'll never know."

But a source assures Us Weekly that the fair-haired pair are indeed dunzo: "They are not dating anymore. And it's not a big deal for either of them."

Seyfried, by the by, denied rumors that Phillippe had unsuccessfully hit on Rihanna during a pre-Grammy shindig, insisting, "That is so [bleeping] not true!"
