Gwyneth Paltrow criticized for 'sexualizing children' via bikinis sold on GOOP
"Great for girls who want to look grown-up!" That's how GOOP describes a handful of bikinis designed by Melissa Odabash that are currently for sale on Gwyneth Paltrow's lifestyle website. The items come in sizes made for 4- to8-year-old girls -- an age range that a number of children's advocates find questionable.
"We remain very opposed to the sexualization of children and of childhood," Kidscape's Claude Knight tells the Daily Mail. "The dangers have been discussed at length, so it is a great pity that such trends continue and that they carry celebrity endorsement."
A rep for Paltrow slammed the critique, noting that "two-piece bathing suits have been worn by young girls for decades."
