Attention, Adam Sanders and the rest of you weepy, mascara-stained, high-note-hitting masses who earn to emancipate your inner Mimi: The Krewe of Mariah has arrived! You need only make your way to Mardi Gras to be part of it. New Orleans' "KOM" is a group of Bacchanalian celebrants who gather together each Carnival season to embrace everything about the woman they alternately refer to as "America's Idol" and "the ultimate diva herself" on their website. Members of KOM dress up in flowing brown wigs, sparkly tiaras and pink gowns to participate in various Mardi Gras events leading up to their own Heartbreaker's Ball, which they describe as an "annual party to celebrate the diva herself, Mardi Gras, and all things glitter."
Founded in 2009 on the wings of a butterfly and a rainbow, the krewe's mission is "to serve as a connection between our various social circles and the Carnival culture of New Orleans, while also paying homage to Mariah Carey, duh." (KOM's "duh," not ours.) The ball is just around the corner on Feb. 11, so be sure to contact your local glitter representative, pronto. (KOM)
