Long before emo music came about, allowing guys to showcase their feelings without social condemnation, there was Andrew McCarthy, shining beacon of male emotion. Pretty, pretty Andrew McCarthy. As indecisive rich kid Blane McDonnagh opposite Molly Ringwald in "Pretty in Pink," McCarthy even made James Spader look tough. Meanwhile, girl audiences everywhere swooned over him and his impossibly blue eyes.
A long career in the Brat Pack makes up for stringing along Andie Walsh for what felt like an eternity in "Pretty in Pink." And we can thank John Hughes' tendency towards writing male characters of the sensitive variety (*cough* Jake Ryan *cough*), for that movie's heart-melting, OMD ending.
