Insiders have repeatedly denied recent reports that Britney Spears plans to tie the knot with her agent-boyfriend, Jason Trawick, but that didn't stop her from flashing a diamond ring on her all-important finger while making a Frappuccino run with him on Friday to a Los Angeles Starbucks (also known as her mother ship).
The popster, 27, who was decked out in denim short-shorts, a yellow polka-dot top and -- holy lifting and separating! -- a white bra, seemed to be deliberately holding out her left hand in front of her in order to give the paparazzi a better view of the speculation-arousing bauble.
Earlier this month, Star magazine claimed that Trawick had popped the question during their recent getaway to the Bahamas with her sons, Sean 3, and Jayden, 2.
Such a proposal would have been a nice change of pace for Britney, who reportedly asked for the hands of both ex-husband Kevin Federline and hubby-for-55-hours Jason Alexander.
Spears' rep didn't respond to our request for comment on her bright-and-shiny accessory, but a source close to the twice-hitched star tells us she's not engaged.
The shutterbugs, for their part, seemed more focused on Brit's bedraggled, salon-deprived blond locks than her sparkler, which might be why she was sporting a faux and flowing brunette mane when she stocked up at a Bed Bath & Beyond outpost with Trawick a couple of days later.
While the outing implies domestic bliss (or at least domestic cleanliness -- a bodyguard was seen toting a broom and several bags of merchandise to her SUV), her telltale digit was bare, with the jewel moved to her middle finger (draw your own conclusions).
And even though Britney was smiley during the home-based retail excursion, her darker mane has prompted talk of a possible mood swing. You'll recall that in her Rolling Stone interview from November, the writer noted, "There's an understanding among those who know Britney well: When she's blond, she's happy. When she's brunette, she's sad."
By most accounts, however, Spears is feeling pretty contented with Trawick, who has been linked to her for more than a year, although their coupled-up status was only recently confirmed.
"They're very sweet together," an insider told People magazine. "He makes Britney really happy, and he's great with the boys."
In related news, Brit's fans had a Twitter meltdown over the weekend after her account was hacked and the following message posted: "Britney has passed today. It is a sad day for everyone. More news to come."
The Tweet was quickly removed, replaced by an assurance that she is "fine and dandy spending a quiet day at home relaxing." Twitter is investigating the security breach.
Spears, who resumes her Circus tour on the Fourth of July in Paris, now joins Jeff Goldblum and Harrison Ford on the post-Michael Jackson death hoax list.
