Chantel Jeffries, a self-described "student, model, eyebrow connoisseur, animal lover [and] deep thinker," was photographed behind the wheel of Justin Bieber's Lamborghini shortly before he was busted in Miami. Within hours, stories were flying about her own run-ins with the law, including apparent arrests for speeding and misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.
"I have been overwhelmed by the negative attention I have recently received in the media," Chantel tells E! News and TMZ in a carefully worded statement. "My family and I are particularly upset about the false accusations which have been published concerning my criminal history."
According to Jeffries, who recently enjoyed a getaway to Panama with Bieber, "I have not been arrested five times as has been stated in the media, nor am I guilty of physically assaulting anyone, in any way shape or form."
The assault charge was dropped due to insufficient evidence, and she does admit to having some "traffic violations."
She adds, "I am a full-time student who had enjoyed a normal lifestyle, free from public scrutiny and criticism, until now. What has happened to me is wrong. I want people in general, and the media in particular, to consider the impact their disparaging comments have on the individual, especially when their comments are inaccurate."
Chantel also denied reports that she was set to pocket $20,000 to talk about her night with Justin before abruptly pulling out of negotiations.
"I would never 'sell my story,'" she tweeted. "It's a hard thing, knowing who to truly trust."
Chantel was apparently considering a "Today" show appearance, but only to clear up the "false allegations."
