Ariel Winter: My Mother's Comments Worsened My Body Image Issues
In the new issue of Teen Vogue, 15-year-old "Modern Family" star Ariel Winter opens up about how life has changed for the better since she left her mother's care and her sister was appointed her guardian. The sisters make a point of having dinner together as a family on Sundays, and Winter is spending more time doing normal teenage things such as going out on the weekends and taking dance lessons. It's a major change for the young actress, who continues to struggle with some of the problems that she says were exacerbated by her mother's treatment.
"I had body insecurities when I was younger," Winter admits. " I still do. Every girl has insecurities -- mine were heightened at the time because my mother wasn't supportive. Now, my sister is always making sure to tell me that I look beautiful … It's about learning to love yourself."
