Nobody Trapped Michael Caine in a Creepy Old Attic

The weirdest invented story of the week award goes to the Daily Mirror, which inexplicably fabricated an R. Kelly-esque tale about 79-year-old thespian Michael Caine and the New Orleans attic that he was allegedly trapped in overnight. While filming "Now You See Me" in the Big Easy, the story goes, Caine took a nap in the attic of an old theater that was being used as his dressing room. "... He was asleep for some time and failed to hear directors calling a wrap," the paper quoted a source as saying. "Production all assumed he was safely outside in his trailer and therefore locked up for the night. His mobile phone was in his trailer and there was no electricity in the attic, meaning he couldn't see a thing. It was pitch black. Michael started shouting for help but no one could hear him." It seems, however, that the Mail may have confused a movie production source with a New Orleans Ghost Tour guide. After the story was republished relentlessly around the 'Net Thursday, Caine tweeted, "Just read another story about me being locked in attick [sic], completely false." (DailyNews)
