Alec Baldwin

Spotlight

Although his brothers Daniel, William and Stephen are all actors, Alec Baldwin is the most successful of the showbiz siblings. Baldwin, who majored in political science at George Washington University and planned to go to law school, ended up studying drama at NYU and starting in soaps (The Doctors, Knots Landing). He spent the late ‘80s and early ‘90s working on Broadway (His take on Stanley in A Streetcar Named Desire earned a Tony nomination in 1992.) and in Hollywood (Beetlejuice, Married To The Mob, Working Girl, The Hunt For Red October and Glengarry Glen Ross. While he continues to pop up in films regularly like The Aviator, The Cooler (for which he got an Oscar noination) and Rock Of Ages, he has found his ultimate sweet spot at 30 Rock, the NBC sitcom created by Tina Fey on which he’s been playing conservative network executive Jack Donaghy since 2006. He’s won three Golden Globes and two Emmys for the role. His personal life hasn’t always been so golden. His seven-year union to Kim Basinger ended in 1993 and he was awarded joint custody of their daughter Ireland, a ruling that wasn’t always easy to enforce and which lead to a profane phone-message scandal and contemplation of suicide. Things have been looking up since Baldwin started dating yoga instructor Hilaria Thomas, who helped get him back in shape, in 2011. They wed in 2012 and Baldwin has admitted to wanting more children.
