Gordon Ramsay's family feud is still going strong. The 46-year-old celebrity chef is still fuming over bad business and personal relationships with his father-in-law, Chris Hutcheson, and doesn't hold back his true feelings in a new interview with Men's Journal, on stands Friday.
"First my father let me down, and then my father-in-law let me down," Ramsay says. "In a sense, I've had two s--- dads."
The "Kitchen Nightmares" star became business partners with his wife Tana's father in Gordon Ramsay Holdings shortly after they married in 1996. At the time, Ramsay said he and Hutcheson were so close that they were like "two wings of the same plane."
But Ramsay started investigating loans Hutcheson was taking from the company in 2010 with the help of a private detective, and discovered his father-in-law was living a double life with a mistress and two children, Men's Journal reports. Ramsay claims that Hutcheson hacked his email after he fired him, and subsequent lawsuits were filed. (Hutcheson has denied any financial impropriety. The lawsuits between Hutcheson and Ramsay have since been settled.)
"I mean, Tana's mother would be on the phone with Chris, and he was saying to her, 'Oh, my God, the snow in France is ridiculous, and I won't be back for a few days,'" the "MasterChef" star recalls. Gordon and Tana are parents to daughters Megan, 15, and Matilda, 11, and twins, Jack and Holly, 13. "While literally at the same time the detective was on the other line saying to me, 'Right, he just landed at Heathrow, and he's being picked up by a blonde, who's driving his car.'"
"And then to cast Tana and the grandchildren off like he did," he continues. "I mean, what would it take for me to do that to my daughter? What kind of man would I be? What kind of evil f--- would you be, to s--- on your family to that extent and bring in this new family that had been hidden for 20 years? What kind of man would I be?"
Ramsay's relationship with his own father wasn't any better. His dad, Gordon, abandoned his family in 1991 to start a new life with a different family, but died seven years later of alcoholism at age 53.
One of the last times Ramsay saw his father was when he invited him to dinner at his restaurant. "He didn't really understand the menu, and he asked for a glass of red wine, which he topped off with 7-Up or Sprite. He said it made it taste better. I didn't know what to say," he admits. "But I could see my French sommelier's toes curling. And I was so embarrassed that I made up an excuse that I had to go to a meeting."
