The move was expected, although the Friday the 13th file date added an extra touch of drama. She's not asking for spousal support but does want to legally ditch the Odom from her last name. An "ironclad prenup" should ensure the split goes smoothly.
"Khloe has been very, very hurt by everything," a source told E! News, with another adding to People, "She realized it's the best thing to move on."
The pair wed in an E!-sponsored ceremony in September 2009 after a whirlwind, month-long courtship. Few expected it to last longer than a single season of "Keeping Up With the Kardashians," but Khloe and Lamar defied expectations with their bond.
But Odom seemed to spiral over the summer. According to TMZ, the "final straw" for Khloe came in late November, when Lamar posted a bizarre rap in which he dropped infidelity hints such as, "And when Khloe's out of town, I still be on the DL."
Soon, her sizable engagement sparkler was off her finger, and she was avoiding her estranged spouse: On Monday night, both attended a Jay Z concert in Los Angeles but didn't interact.
Us says the breakdown of their union will be chronicled on the forthcoming season of "KUWTK."
"At first she was adamant about not letting E! address the situation," explains a spy. "Then she realized it would ruin the series' integrity not to show what she was going through. But she won't let them air anything that will hurt Lamar too much."
On Thursday, Khloe posted a telling Instagram message: "I am strong because I've been weak. I am fearless because I've been afraid. I am wise because I've been foolish."
