"They are broken up," says a source. "It's sad. She cares about him a lot and thinks he's a great guy, but they really hit a rough patch."
Waits, a Las Vegas-based nightclub exec whose time with Paris has included getting busted for DUI and fending off a purported home intruder, "found it difficult to live his life with her in the spotlight, and that's what caused their split," explains the snitch. "No drama; it's amicable, but things didn't work out."
The pair's relationship woes are conveniently chronicled in this week's episode of Hilton's low-rated new show, "The World According to Paris."
"Sometimes when you start to lose something, you begin to realize how much you really want it," she voice-overs before asking Waits on-camera if he wants to call it quits. "I love Cy and only Cy, and the thought of losing him forever is awful. I'm willing to do whatever it takes to make this relationship work. I just hope he feels the same way."
Word of the apparent split comes just as Paris gushed to People mag about the positive influence Waits has had on her diet, which once consisted of caffeine and fast food.
"He explained everything to me," she enthused. "Now I only eat organic foods when we're at home. He makes me watch documentaries on food, like 'Fast Food Nation,' and he makes me aware of what things are good for your body because he's very into that."
