'Simpsons' creator donates $500,000 to Los Angeles college

"The Simpsons" creator Matt Groening has donated $500,000 to a Los Angeles university he never attended.

The celebrated animator has handed over the cash to the dean of the University of California, Los Angeles' School of Theater, Film and Television, creating an endowment which will enable officials to hire professionals to teach students in the school's animation program.

The gift will create the Matt Groening Chair in Animation.

Groening, who attended liberal arts college Evergreen State in Washington, also donates $50,000 annually to the university, according to the Los Angeles Times.
